Does the thought of purchasing a diamond ring overwhelm you? Don't think you know enough about certificates, inclusions, grading scales, and colors? Or do you know the basics, but need a refresher course? A good understanding of diamonds is necessary before you begin shopping. I have included the important educational information on my website. During your appointment, we will review all these areas in detail so you are comfortable with your buying decision.

Loose Diamonds and Grading Report

GIA CertificateA grading report is a "blueprint" of a diamond, it tells you the diamond's exact measurements and weight, as well as the details of its cut and quality. It precisely points out all the individual characteristics of the stone. Grading Reports also serve as proof of the diamond's identity and value. A certificate is not the same thing as an appraisal.

A grading report describes the quality of a diamond, but it does not place a monetary value on the gem. An appraisal places a monetary value on your diamond, but does not certify the quality of the diamond.

Before selecting a diamond, first determine your budget with your main consideration being what you can comfortably afford. It is important to know the preferred shape and size of the diamond and also the style of setting.  If a jewelry store offers to sell you a loose diamond without a grading report, keep in mind that it means you are buying the diamond based only on the salesperson's claim about its quality, and that a certified gemologist could disagree with this assessment.  Every diamond sold at Cheryl Fornash Jewelers comes with a GIA or AGS Certificate.
